Daily Schedule
A typical week begins on Sunday evening at 8pm with orientation and ends Saturday morning. Each Thursday we take half of the day off to allow you to experience New Orleans. You can go explore the French Quarter, look around in the French Market, and eat some local food. Other options include hopping on a boat and going on a swamp tour (you may even get to see an alligator or two!). During the work week, each group is typically involved in working on the construction site, participating in outreach with our street cleaning teams, and working in teams to accomplish daily chores and meals. The days begin with a devotional time, three evenings include a worship service for singing, praying and talking about the day, and one evening your group will participate in a prayer trail we have set up on campus.
Transportation
CrossRoads Missions does not provide transportation to this field. The
group is responsible for transportation to/from New Orleans, as well as to
the worksites in Katrina affected areas.
Housing
Housing is currently provided at Faith Church (13123 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70128), which is in New Orleans East. Cots and bunk beds are provided. Your group is responsible to bring your own bedding (i.e. sheets, blankets, pillow or sleeping bags). Bathrooms and showers are available at the church.
Food
While in New Orleans, your meals will be provided by CrossRoads Missions. Additional money is needed for meals while you travel, for dinner on Thursday night, and for any other personal purchases. Each morning participants and staff work together to prepare breakfast for the entire team. Lunch meals are picnic style including deli sandwiches, chips, and cookies. The evening meal is also prepared by participants and staff. Meals are hot, hearty, and tasty!
