Plans are underway for Crossroads Missions Medical Mission trip to Piedras Negras, Mexico in the spring of 2009. It will involve medical and health fair clinics, as well as an expanded children's program. Last year we saw over 500 patients and many more at the health fair. Here are some of the details so that you can begin thinking about your plans.
The dates of the trip are March 14-21, 2009.
Mission Cost
The cost for the trip is $500 plus your airfare. This covers medical supplies, food, lodging, and transportation to and from the airport. One afternoon, Crossroads Missions will provide an opportunity for shopping at the city market. Participants will be responsible for paying for their lunch at the market, which ranges from $5 to $10. There are also small stores in the community at which you can buy cokes and chips or candy.
A passport OR Birth Certificate is required for the trip.
Schedule
A typical week includes working in teams with our mobile medical clinic, accomplishing daily chores, devotional/worship time, and enjoying authentic Mexican meals. During the week you will also spend time in fellowship with a local church congregation, participating in worship services and activities. Each morning and evening includes a time for singing, praying, and worship, as well as events to experience the culture. Evening activities include going to community parks, neighborhood BBQ's, visiting the cultural plaza and family home visits & tours.
Medical Clinics
With the help of Mexican translators and pastors, the medical teams set up clinics in the outlying areas of the community where medical attention is limited or absent. The medical clinics are based on Biblical holistic medical care and focus to build up disadvantaged individuals and communities by incorporating health care, evangelism, medicine, and education of nutrition/wellness into their daily lifestyles. A team of doctors, nurses, students and other adult volunteers are needed to conduct clinics in these communities. It is a great hands-on experience for nursing, physician assistant, and pre-med students. The majority of medicines and supplies are typically donated to CrossRoads Missions. If you have contacts or information about possible pharmacy donations please contact Sarah Hatter by
