CrossRoads Missions - Piedras Negras Mexico Field
Location Piedras Negras is at the northern border of the state of Coahuila, Mexico. It sits across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas and about 150 miles southwest of San Antonio.
History CrossRoads Missions has been working in Piedras Negras, Mexico (on the Texas Border) since 1993 and is actively involved in community development and ministry in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Projects have included the construction of two churches, two schools, an orphanage and many single family homes. We work to improve the education, housing, and environment for families by partnering with local ministries, empowering them to be the face of Christ in their communities.
People We Serve Mexicans value friendship, humor, honesty and hard work. Due to economic issues in Mexico it is extremely difficult for the majority of Mexicans to work their way out of poverty. They have a desire to make things better for the next generation, but may have difficulties maintaining hope in a land filled with despair. Many people we work alongside view the Church as the instrument for providing peace, joy and hope that comes only from Christ.

Vision Seeking to glorify Christ in word and deed, CrossRoads Missions is actively involved in various types of ministry in Piedras Negras. Through fellowship, worship, and encouragement, participants work together as the body of Christ to display a testimony of the love of our Savior. In addition to several on-going construction projects, groups spend time ministering in the community through medical missions, kids programs, soup kitchens, hospital feeding programs, meals and community events. CrossRoads Missions plans to continue and strengthen our commitment to the people of Piedras Negras, with an emphasis on the sick, poor, orphaned, widowed, hungry, and neglected.
After a recent trip, we received feedback from the youth pastor, a past participant with CrossRoads when he was in youth group at his church:
Over the past several years I have fallen in love with the ministry of Crossroads Missions in Piedras Negras. So, when I went to plan the first ever mission trip for our Student Ministry, Piedras made the short list of possibilites. I contacted Crossroads Missions to just ask some basic questions and figure out what a trip with them to Piedras would look like. I quickly realized this was the place that God was calling me to lead our students. Being the first ever mission trip for most of our students, our parents and church leaders were very reluctant to the idea. I decided to take another leader from our church and go to Piedras just to check things out for ourselves. When we got down there, Jack (the other leader) fell in love with the ministry. But, to be honest, I was a little taken back. I had not been there in several years, and not much had changed. I asked the Crossroads leaders, "what happened?" They simply explained that groups just stopped coming. So much work to be done, but no one there to do it. That really echos, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." We came back even more impressed with the leaders of Crossroads Missions and their vision for the ministry in Piedras.
This past week we finally got down there! Our students loved it! They have yet to stop talking about how great the trip was and how much it changed their lives. However, that is nowhere near the best part of our time in Piedras. God is using Crossroads Missions in mighty ways to bring more people to Jesus. God is moving in that city through His people, and we got to be a part of it!! Our students were challenged to step out of their comfort zone, to work hard, to love the least of these, to encourage the body of Christ. These are invaluable things to be a part of! I'm glad that our students had fun, but I am more excited about what God is doing in and through their lives. I won't soon forget a quote from one of our students on our last night in Piedras, "I've fallen in love with this place and am so glad that I allowed God to use me here. However, I am just as excited to get home and boldly live like Jesus in my high school that does not know Him." The Kingdom of God is forcefully advancing around the world, and our students got to experience it firsthand. All I can say is that these students' lives have been changed forever because of what God is doing in Piedras Negras through the work of Crossroads Missions! I'm proud to have worked with their staff and have been given the opportunity to spread the Gospel alongside them. This is too good an opportunity to pass up...Matthew 9:37...
